The Parish Centre exists to provide a focal point around which St Barnabas can interact with the community on a daily basis. It provides a reception/circulating area, committee room, parish office, kitchen and toilets. It is open to the public:
- Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8.30 am to 11.00 am for refreshments
- Wednesdays from 10.00 am to 12 noon for refreshments
On Tuesdays, a craft circle meets from 9.30 am. Various groups connected with the church, but not exclusively for its members, meet at other times, particularly Friday afternoons. On the second and last Friday of the month at 2.00 pm there is a social gathering aimed at older members of the community; on the first Friday of the month ”Living with Loss” aims to provide support for the recently bereaved; and on the third Friday “The Quiet Space” offers an opportunity for quiet reflection and meditation. There is free internet access, and instruction in the use of IT for those who require it. The Age Concern “Happy Feet” toenail cutting service operates in the centre every third Tuesday from 9.00 am to 1.30 pm.
The Parish Centre is not available for hire, but it can be used by community groups and individuals for appropriate purposes in return for a donation to defray expenses – the Parish Centre Manager, Richard Gash, is always happy to discuss your requirements on 0118 9475744 or by e-mail. Volunteers to assist with any of the activities are also welcome, subject to the usual checks.
This is a wonderful facility born of our strong desire to reach out into the community and share God’s love with our neighbours. Why not call in and see us next time you pass?
