PDF stands for Portable Document Format. Simply clicking on the name of the document will usually open if for you. If nothing happens or you get an error message, you may need to download a free plugin to view the document, called Acrobat Reader. PDF is often used for information which is not easy to convert to html pages, or which people are more likely to want to print off or store on their computer to read at their leisure.
To view and print PDF files you will require Adobe Acrobat Reader.
