Green Group

Eco-congregation logoThe group, which meets in the Parish Centre and is open to all, has as its basis the Fifth Mark of Mission, namely:

“To safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth”.

The Group seeks to keep this in the forefront of the minds of the congregation by its participation in the Eco-congregation Programme that will lead to the Eco-congregation Award.

We are working on a number of modules as part of this programme that relate to the spiritual, practical and mission aspects of the life of the church and its members in regard to our care of and response to God’s creation.   In relation to the response of the Church to Climate Change we are particularly concerned about managing the Church’s carbon footprint; which we hope to reduce by 5% within a year and to continue to do so each year. In so doing we are contributing to the National Church’s “Shrinking the Footprint” target and that of the Government, which expects a reduction in our carbon footprint of 42% by 2020.
