THE DAY I MET THE CHIEF SCOUT

Earlier this year I joined the newly formed Beaver Colony of the 89th Reading Scout Group. Monday evenings are great fun and lots of different activities take place. These include badge work, games, walks, crafts, visits and working together in teams (“lodges”)

The leaders, helpers and all those volunteer in any way within the Scout movement are dedicated people who give freely of their time.

During the hottest week in July I went away with my parents to the East Coast of England. One day while I was beachcombing and making sand castles, I saw a person I recognised with his children.  We all had a brief conversation together and as I had surmised it was Bear Grylls, the Chief Scout. Very kindly he agreed to be photographed with me as it had been mentioned to him that I am a Beaver. Through the perversity of photography and the climatic conditions, the end result is blurred. Though there is no lasting memento of the occasion, nevertheless I shall long remember the day I was privileged to meet the Chief Scout.
