MAP day musings

Rob Page tells us his thoughts on the recent MAP day

In all honesty I was a little reluctant to give up my Saturday morning, however, I went along to make my contribution.

The day was very well put together by Bill and Derek – they both set the tone very well at the start of the day, some very realistic ground rules were established and the day was clearly structured. We had structured discussion in groups of 6 which worked well, helped greatly by the tight definition of topics from Bill.

As we went through the discussion it was clear how many areas of the church there are and what a broad community structure St Barnabas is. We found that one topic spawned lots of subsidiary ideas and were able to use the different backgrounds and experiences of all the members of the group to create a rounded set of ideas. By the end of the session in our group we had come up with 2 flip chart sheets of suggestions which were presented to the wider group in the afternoon.

All in all it was a lot better than I expected it to be. I enjoyed the opportunity to get to know other people in the church and to contribute my ideas and experience to shaping the future of St Barnabas.

(If you liked this then please come to ‘Being a Parish Church in 2015′ on Sunday 8th February at 9.30am for a MAP update and more.)
